It started with a Minolta.
Beau Blackburn was twelve when his grandmother handed him a Minolta film camera. He learned darkrooms in Oklahoma City, earned a BFA in Photography from Ringling College of Art and Design, and learned weddings the old way in San Diego.
He founded Blue Spruce in 2014 and added films in 2019. More than a decade in, he still takes the first wedding booked on any date. When he is not shooting, he is outside somewhere with his family.

Named for the state tree.
The blue spruce grows slowly, keeps its color through every season, and never needs decorating to be worth looking at. It has been Colorado’s state tree since 1939. That felt about right for a studio that holds its tones true and plans to be here a long time.
THE TEAM
The people you’ll work with.
Three photographers. Three filmmakers. One of them does both. Every wedding is planned with Beau and edited to the same true-tone standard, whoever is behind the camera. You are never handed off to someone we would not trust with our own family.
Every couple. No exceptions.
We photograph every kind of love and every kind of wedding. LGBTQ+ couples, multicultural celebrations, elopements of two, receptions of three hundred. If it matters to you, it matters to us.
